A fantastic sightseeing holiday in Italy with your vintage or classic car? Impossible? No really as you and your car are ferried across Europe to Verona by overnight Motorail, and the total mileage in Italy for the entire fortnight is just 1,200!
You will visit Florence, Pisa Frascati, Rome, Monte Cassino, Naples Vesuvius, Pompeii, and the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Molise province (tourists haven't discovered it yet), Rimini, Lake Garda & Venice, arriving back in Verona three days before boarding the return train. Now that the Eire Amble is over (incidentally, by popular demand it’s on again next August), I’m into serious Italy mode, as it’s only six months to the start, and although the format is the same as 2005, barring very minor tweaking, the hotels and route have to be double checked, and to that aim I’m off in six weeks time to reconnoitre. However, I will be covering the whole tour again just before the start to make sure the road book is correct – as I’ve said before, it’s a tough job but somebody has to do it!

We are using the same hotels as previous, all of which scored highly with participants last time on both location and quality.

The Pitti Palace in Florence is just fifty yards from the Ponte Vecchio, and once the cars are secreted in the underground car park nearby you relax and spend he next twenty-four hours exploring the city.

The restaurant, on the sixth floor of the tower, has spectacular views across the city, and although previously it was just used for breakfasts, it now serves evening meals. However, there are also numerous good restaurants close by.

In Pisa we are again using the Hotel Duomo, very close to the tower. Parking is limited, but I’m organising an alternative secure location.

The Hotel Aminta in Sorrento was a big hit with everyone last year, with excellent views, good food, and superb views across the Bay of Naples to Vessuvius.

In Larino the Campitelli is a family run hotel in a region that doesn’t see tourists, despite the picturesque countryside. In 2005 the local reporter came out ask why we were there! All rooms are air-conditioned, and there’s a swimming pool. A bottle of good house wine is five euros, and a steak six euros fifty! A gentle scenic run on the second day takes in an olive oil tasting (good fun, ask anyone who went last time) and a winery.

The Hotel Biancanamo in Rimini is in the old part of the town, close to the port. There are good restaurants in a square a few hundred yards away, and again, the hotel has a pool.

Finally, the Leon D’Oro in Verona. This is one of the top hotels in the city, and a short walk from the railway station (we travel to Venice by train) and also the city centre.

People already booked will receive periodic updates, and of course you’re welcome to give me a call at anytime if you have any queries. If, however, you’re currently undecided I have to warn the deadline for booking is fast approaching, for although I’m currently allocated all forty cabins on the train, I have to start releasing unrequired ones at the end of October.
As a reminder my contact details are 01824 790280 (main number), 07751 812948 (mobile), enquiries@countrylanetours.co.uk (email), However, please note that from Thursday

October 5th to Monday October 9th I’ll be unavailable as I’m doing a competitive rally in Ireland.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in May.

Ian
